Surf Clubs
Maroubra SLSC
Established in 1906 under the name “North Maroubra Life Line Club”, the club was one of the founding members of the Surf Life Saving Association. In its early years the club won numerous carnivals including the Randwick Jubilee Cup in 1909, however the membership deteriorated during World War 1. The club rebuilt its membership during the 1920s, and 1932 the foundation stone was laid for the clubhouse that was opened two years later.
The club’s membership continued to grow during the 1930s and 40s, and in March 1946 the Australian Championships were conducted at Maroubra.
During the 1960s the club members created the Maroubra Seals Club, which is now the major sponsor of the surf club.
In 1972 Dennis Green, a member of the club, carried the Australian flag at the Munich Olympics, as did Max Metzker at Moscow in 1980.
In 2002 a major refurbishment and renovation of the Club house commenced. In 2006 the club celebrated its 100th anniversary.
